If you are interested in renewing your TEXAS Grant award, you are encouraged to do so by completing your renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), or TASFA  for non-citizens classified as Texas residents, no later than March 15 prior to the upcoming academic year. If you have an incomplete financial aid file as of March 15, your eligibility may be affected due to limited funds.

In addition to meeting the general eligibility requirements for the TEXAS Grant (i.e., financial need, enrolled at least three-quarter time, etc.), you must meet the TEXAS Grant Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to maintain your eligibility. • If you have become ineligible to receive a TEXAS Grant due to your not meeting the TEXAS Grant Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements, you can file an appeal. The appeal must demonstrate a true hardship that you experienced during the period of poor academic performance. To appeal, you must submit a letter of explanation, as well as documentation of your hardship, via Financial Aid Self-Service

Also, if you are experiencing a documented hardship (such as a severe illness, etc.), you may be allowed to receive the TEXAS Grant while enrolled for less than three-quarter time but at least half-time. To appeal the three-quarter time enrollment requirement, you must submit a letter of explanation, as well as documentation of your hardship, to Financial Aid and Scholarships.

  • If you are unable to enroll in at least 9 hours (but at least 6 hours) due to being in your last two semesters of your degree, please contact our office to have the Enrollment Change Form added to your Texas State Self-Service page. Once the form is received and processed, we can adjust your aid and ready it for disbursement.

  • An appeal must be filed by the appropriate deadline in order to be considered for the current fall and spring semesters. The deadline to submit an appeal is October 1st of the academic year in which the funds are being sought.
